My family is out of the house today, and suddenly I can see straight. As I walk into my closet that’s been a jumbled mess, it becomes immediately obvious how to organize my business files, personal things and the baby clothes she’s grown out of– to make space for our friends who’ll be staying here while we’re gone.
Alone, with an open schedule, I create at my best. I don’t always have the physical space and time I desire, and so I’m grateful I have other ways of finding “my space.”
I love having space. And if there is “too much” clutter on any level, I love to cut it out.
I first noticed this in 1998, when I worked in the gardens at the Findhorn Foundation in Northern Scotland. Day after day, in the middle of winter, I found myself pruning hypericum (St. John’s Wort).
I had never done pruning before, and was missing the Aikido practice I’d left in Colorado. My boss, also a tai chi teacher, explained pruning as a way to foster life by moving energy. As we cut away the weak parts of each plant, more life force got directed towards the new blooms.
Ah…. something clicked and the martial artist in me felt fulfilled! We weren’t “getting rid” of anything, just cultivating energy. It also made the gardens look so beautiful.
Do you feel like you have enough space for the energy that wants to flow in your life? If you’re rolling your eyes going “What’s that?,” then read on!
It seems most of us these days– especially women and parents in general– are overwhelmed a lot. When almost all of our time is full, it’s hard to create anything or feel our aliveness. Never mind doing our toenails or getting massages.
When we’re over-full, over-stretched, and not taking care of ourselves, we stop radiating. We can’t take any more in or consider anything new. We react to our loved ones and to simple problems as if they’re monsters trying to “get us.”
We’re frustrated and we don’t know why, and so we fill with more food and more Facebook. It doesn’t work.
I think the real problem is disconnection from our creative power. Yes, massages help. But our biggest need is for space.
And this may sound paradoxical because the feminine loves to fill. It’s more of a masculine energy to cut everything away, to choose silence and “nothing”.
Yet the masculine and feminine energies each require the other. Without space, we cannot create.
Think of the womb. Think of all the artists who choose solitude. Think of spring lilies that pop up “out of nowhere”.
Sometimes we have enough time and physical space but we still don’t feel like ourselves. We feel aimless or confused and so it’s hard to enjoy the space we have. We don’t understand why and so we beat ourselves up over it– which is the opposite of what’s needed.
This is one of the reasons energy healing and meditation are so effective: because they give us true space. Beyond space on your calendar or kitchen counter, getting clear energetically gives you an inner freedom that is pure bliss. It allows you to handle whatever comes your way.
I tell my clients I don’t promise to take their problems away, because we are all here to grow through our unique challenges. However, I do feel super-confident that with energy clearing and an expanded perspective, all of us can have a much easier time!
The energy that overwhelms us is rarely our own. It’s the habits and programs that aren’t working anymore. It’s the energy we take on from others that crowds our life, and actually the most loving thing we can do is to clear it.
Why? To foster life. We can’t process someone else’s issue, and they can’t process it if we have it. By moving the energy where it belongs, everyone wins.
But we feel so guilty giving it back. We don’t know how to give it back, or think we don’t have time to.
And so we suffer. And end up with less and less time and less and less space.
I have learned that taking a little time and creating a little space will make 10x more time and space. If you don’t know how, I can show you.
What would you do with more space? If you don’t know, then I know some energy clearing will help you find out!
I get most of my blog and video ideas out in nature on a walk. Or as I wake up, or in the shower. Rarely does a new idea come at my desk.
I feel most happy to see my partner after time away. I appreciate my work so much more since I’ve had a child. I love hot springs and chocolate the most in the middle of the desert, where you’d expect to find “nothing.”
Cut it all away not to limit life, but to nurture life. Take out the unnecessary– not due to lack of money or time or energy– but rather so you can feel the abundance and appreciation in what you have. Most importantly, so you can feel YOU.
